- עֲקִירָהf. (עָקַר) 1) tearing loose, plucking. Snh.68a למדני עֲקִירָתָן teach me, how to tear them out.Pl. עֲקִירוֹת. Sifré Deut. 171, v. עִיקּוּר. 2) removal from place, lifting up. Sabb.2b כל עֲקִירַתוכ׳, v. הוֹצָאָה. Ib. 3a עקירת גופו כעקירת חפץוכ׳ is moving ones body (starting to walk) like lifting an object from its place?; a. fr. 3) uprooting, undoing. Y.Hor.I, 46a עקירת הגוף a decision which abrogates a Biblical law entirely; Y.Yeb.X, 10d bot. 4) making childless, extinction. Pesik.
